Review & Swatches - OPI Pirates of the Caribbean Collection: Part 1

Hey guys!

So it turned out that the package from Purolator that I thought was the last package for my giveaway turned out to be a package of samples from the new OPI Spring Collections: Femme de Cirque and Pirates of the Caribbean. I was excited to be able to try these polishes but I was also a little disappointed because I really want to get my giveaway up and running! I promise guys, it's coming!

Anyway, today I have 4 of the 7 polishes from the OPI Pirates of the Caribbean Collection. When the collection is released I'll definitely pick up the other 3 polishes so you can keep an eye out for that sometime in May.

Planks a Lot (blue-based medium purple creme)
Although this one doesn't feel extremely unique to me, I still really really like it. The formula was excellent - it glided on beautifully and was completely opaque in 2 coats. I also love the name of this one - it's a pun yet it's also fitting for the theme!

Skull & Glossbones (dirty pale grey creme)
I'm am so freaking in love with this one it's unreal! It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea, that's for sure, but I love that it looks kind of dirty and murky (which is great for the theme of the collection). The formula was also great and it was opaque in 2 coats.

Mermaid's Tears (pale sea foam green)
This is another beautiful colour that I'm completely in love with. Once again, the formula was excellent and like the others, it was opaque in 2 coats.

Silver Shatter (metallic silver shatter)
I was really excited about this polish since I have yet to see a metallic finish shatter polish and it definitely lived up to my expectations. I found it less finicky and more forgiving than Black Shatter and although it might not work with as many colours and finishes as Black Shatter does, it's much more interesting in my opinion. I've also posted my "Shatter Polish Tips" at the end of this post for anyone who missed them in previous reviews.

Overall, I'm very pleased with this collection and even though I only have 4 of the 6 polishes, it's my favourite collection that OPI has released this year so far. The formula was excellent for all of the polishes I tried and they were all opaque in 2 coats which was an added bonus.
Usually I would say which polishes are my favourite but I really can't choose because I truly love all 4 of these!
As soon as the other 2 polishes are released (early May), I'll have swatches up for those as well.

Shatter Polish Tips:
- Make sure your polish is dry before applying it. If it's not dry, Silver Shatter won't crackle as much and you'll be left with only a little of your base colour peeking through.
- Apply it quickly with as few amount of brush strokes as possible. SIlver Shatter is very fast acting so you don't want to play around with it, just brush it on quickly and let it do it's thing.
- The shattered pieces may flake off so for a longer lasting mani, add a top coat. But, if you like the matte finish look, skip the top coat.
- A thin coat of the shatter polish will shatter more and thus provide smaller shattered pieces on the nail.

What do you guys think? Will you be picking any of these colours up?

  3. Oh I looooove those colors! The greyish color isn't something I'd ever think to pick up but when I see it in a review like this I always think of how I need to broaden my horizons haha

I have a question. How do you get products to review? Does the company contact you or do you contact them? I'm curious how all the bloggers get the freebies for reviewing! :) (I'm a newbie)
