Review & Swatches - LCN Crackle Collection

Hey guys!

I have been trying to complete my LCN Crackle Collection for a while now but my beauty supply store was always sold out of at least one of the colours. Finally, I dropped up a few days ago and they had the last colour I needed.
Originally I wanted these to keep in my kit but after swatching them, I think I might keep them for myself!

Note: I would have liked to have swatches these over other LCN shades to keep everything consistent but I don't own enough of the LCN polishes so instead I used a number of different brands of polish for the base colours.

Usually I would review each polish individually but all of these polishes felt pretty much the same in formula, which is pretty rare. Teal Typhoon felt a tad thinner, which didn't effect it's performance, but besides that, they all felt the same.

I found these crackle polishes to be the easiest of any that I have used thus far. They're much more forgiving and less finicky than other crackles that I've tried and I also found that they crack much more, which is important to me. I like the crackle effect a lot but only when I'm able to see a fair amount of the base colour coming through the crackle, which I don't find is the case with some of the other crackles I've tried.

These do have their downsides though. First, the size is smaller than your average polish (8ml) and even with my pro discount they're still close to the same price as other crackle polishes. I get these polishes for $6.75 which is basically half the price of what they sell for retail. I found the formula to be better than the other crackles I have tried but unfortunately, the price, especially for non-professionals, is a bit steep when compared with other crackles.

Overall, although the LCN Crackles offer some new colours and a superior crackle formula (in my opinion of course), their size and price in comparison to other crackles might not be worth it for some.

If you are interested in these crackle polishes, the only place I know of outside of professional beauty supply stores that these are available is here, where they retail for $13.50. I haven't purchased from this e-tailer before myself but I have read good things about the site.

What do you guys think? Would you try the LCN Crackles? Any colour combinations that you would like to see me swatch for you?

  2. Love these swatches. One comment though, the Blazing Yellow looks so sheer on its swatch! I tried it over a Sephora by OPI red and it was much brighter! Maybe it was a thin coat? Definitely a good option for crackles, even if they are a little pricey. At least they're available! :)

  3. Rebecca: I know, that one is one of my favourite combos!
And nope, they don't have to be used over LCN nails! I've gotten that question a number of times actually as I use LCN polishes on clients (the price of the bottle is worked into the price of their mani so that they can keep the bottle) and many have asked if they need LCN nails for these polishes so I guess it's just a common misconception!

Sam: I know what you mean but I realized that it's not that Blazing Yellow is sheer (like you said, it's much brighter over another shade) and I also didn't apply it sheer, it's just that Illamasqua Gamma is SO bright that it completely dominates Blazing Yellow. I definitely wish I had chosen a different colour to swatch with but I thought that orange and yellow would be a great summer combo.

  4. They sell LCN polishes at my hair salon - The Hair Factory in Churchill Square, but they're downstairs in the spa area. I thought they were just for LCN nails too!
