Top 10 Polishes - Part 2

Hey guys!

So after a long day of classes and then work, I'm finally able to relax and do some bloggin'. Today I have Part 2 of my top 10 all-time favourite polishes. I showed you numbers 10-6 here so this post is going to conclude my top 10 by counting down numbers 5-1.

I'll mention again how I was able to sort through my massive polish collection and narrow my favourites down to only 10. Quoted from my Part 1 post: One of the ways I was able to narrow it down is by determining whether or not I would wear a shade alone, without any nail art. I pretty much always have nail art on but every once in a while I'll come across a colour that is so special that I'll actually forego the nail art and wear the shade alone. This doesn't happen often but the shades that I have listed below are all shades that I would wear on their own.

Let's get right to it.

Keep reading for swatches and more info on my favourite polishes!

5. Zoya - Crystal
Crystal is a medium blue foil with heavy gold glitter flakes. It's a super unique and kind of mystical looking shade and I really have nothing like it in my collection. It's not the most eye-catching shade from afar but once you get a glimpse of this up-close, it's stunning. I wore this as a complete mani a while back and got a number of compliments on it. The formula was very nice and applied very smoothly but it did require 3 coats for full opacity.
This was released with Zoya's Fire & Ice Collection which was released in Winter 2010 and although I only grabbed a few of the colours from that collection, I'd still like to pick up the rest of them because I think they're all really special.

4. China Glaze - Strawberry Fields
I really don't wear much pink polish (especially on its own) but Strawberry Fields is one of the only exceptions to this. It's a medium pink with gold flecks of shimmer and it's those gold flecks that really make this shade a unique and special one.
It looks lovely with my skin tone, it applies wonderfully and is opaque in 2 coats. I also love the fact that this is a permanent shade so I can wear it as much as I like and not have to worry about running out (which is the case with some of my other favourites).

3. Deborah Lippmann - Across the Universe
Anyone who has been following my blog for a while knows just how much I love this colour. I've blogged about this colour 2 or 3 times because it was so difficult for me to get and when I finally got my hands on it, I immediately removed the nail art I was sporting and used this as a full mani.
This is a glitter party of small blue glitter and blue/teal hexagonal glitter all suspended in a deep blue jelly base and it makes me think of mermaids whenever I look at it. This shade was released in Fall 2010 along with Bad Romance (which is a shade that would definitely make it in my Top 15 polishes).
You can see my full review and swatch of this polish here.

2. China Glaze - Atlantis
This one made it this high on my list because it has so many of my favourite things: it's teal, it has glitter, and it has holo. It's a teal jelly base with teal and holo glitter scattered throughout. It looks absolutely lovely on the nails and although it's a bit sheer and requires 3 coats, it applies quite nicely. As far as I know, this was a limited shade but you can still find it on eBay for regular retail price (which is how I got mine).

1. OPI - Mad as a Hatter
I really hated it when I realized that this definitely was my all-time favourite because I know how hard it is to get this polish. In fact, a quick search on eBay wielded no results at all - not even any at a ridiculous markup price! I myself was very lucky in finding this one and as far as I know, it was the last one in my city since I went pretty much everywhere else looking for it. My bottle even has a crack in in (visible in the photo above) which might be why no one else snagged it but I really didn't care.
Anyway, this is one of those clown puke/unicorn piss polishes that's chucked full of magnificent glitter. It's one of those shades that catches the eye because it's so sparkly and in your face (which I love). I think the HTF status of this polish might be one of the reasons I cherish this as much as I do but as I have said many times before, I love glitter polish, and I especially love multi-coloured glitter polish. The formula of this is excellent (I always love OPI's glitter formula) and it's completely opaque in 2 coats.
Although I would for sure wear this as a full mani, I wouldn't want to use that much of the polish so I would probably use this on an accent nail or I would at least lay down a base colour of purple or silver before adding this in order to conserve polish.

What do you guys think about my favourites? Are any of them on your favourites list as well?

  1. I love China Glaze - Strawberry Fields<3 On my to buy list:D

  2. oh god, i totally know what you mean about not wanting to use mad as a hatter.
i feel like we are so special for getting the last 2 in the city! hahahaha.
i feel that way about all my opi glitters - i just don't want to use them because i don't want to use them up! haha.
however i have devised a plan - i can wear milani glitters under them!
silver dazzle under MAAH, gold glitz under bring on the bling, and blue flash under absolutely alice!
and those are my top 3 glitters, so i would like to spare them.

MAAH also looks awesome over 2 coats of sally hansen xtreme wear rockstar pink!

your swatch of across the universe is lovely.

  3. Wow I really need that Deborah Lippman polish! Its gorgeous!

  4. I don't know why everybody is mad about Mad as a hatter :)
It doesn't do anything to tickle my nerves...

But Lipmann's Universe is making me wanna do crazy things to get it!
I see you love glitters from your top 10?

  5. I love how sparkley this list was! I really wanted to get MAAH for my sister but the only place I've found it was ebay for like $50- not sure that's going to happen haha. But these are all great picks, you're making me wish I had a glittery polish on my nails!

  6. I don't really understand the MAAH thing, but everything else I get completely :) Strawberry Fields is my favourite ever, your description/reasoning for it pretty well hits it on the nail for me too.

  7. The deborah lipman is gorgeous. I could stare at it all day long!

I don't know if you can get Barry M there, but they do a similar one to MAAH, you can see a swatch here: (Not my website, just wanted to show you!)
What do you think, good match?

  8. across the universe is one that i would absolutely love to own.

  9. are very beautiful *.*

  10. I most definitely want Strawberry Fields now. I love it !

  11. Oh well.. this will become my lemmings now! I don't have any of these and I really wish I had them! So gorgeous!!

  12. across the universe is still on my to buy list. Need to find some place that has it in stock :)

  13. Looooove Across The Universe, wow. I was surprised with the nail swatch of the Zoya Crystal, not at all how I expected it to look. It's gorgeous!! The other day I picked up a shimmery hot pink CG, and it might be Strawberry Fields. Sure looks gorgeous!!!
