So after a long day of classes and then work, I'm finally able to relax and do some bloggin'. Today I have Part 2 of my top 10 all-time favourite polishes. I showed you numbers 10-6 here so this post is going to conclude my top 10 by counting down numbers 5-1.
I'll mention again how I was able to sort through my massive polish collection and narrow my favourites down to only 10. Quoted from my Part 1 post: One of the ways I was able to narrow it down is by determining whether or not I would wear a shade alone, without any nail art. I pretty much always have nail art on but every once in a while I'll come across a colour that is so special that I'll actually forego the nail art and wear the shade alone. This doesn't happen often but the shades that I have listed below are all shades that I would wear on their own.
Let's get right to it.
Keep reading for swatches and more info on my favourite polishes!
5. Zoya - Crystal
Crystal is a medium blue foil with heavy gold glitter flakes. It's a super unique and kind of mystical looking shade and I really have nothing like it in my collection. It's not the most eye-catching shade from afar but once you get a glimpse of this up-close, it's stunning. I wore this as a complete mani a while back and got a number of compliments on it. The formula was very nice and applied very smoothly but it did require 3 coats for full opacity.
This was released with Zoya's Fire & Ice Collection which was released in Winter 2010 and although I only grabbed a few of the colours from that collection, I'd still like to pick up the rest of them because I think they're all really special.
4. China Glaze - Strawberry Fields
I really don't wear much pink polish (especially on its own) but Strawberry Fields is one of the only exceptions to this. It's a medium pink with gold flecks of shimmer and it's those gold flecks that really make this shade a unique and special one.
It looks lovely with my skin tone, it applies wonderfully and is opaque in 2 coats. I also love the fact that this is a permanent shade so I can wear it as much as I like and not have to worry about running out (which is the case with some of my other favourites).
3. Deborah Lippmann - Across the Universe
Anyone who has been following my blog for a while knows just how much I love this colour. I've blogged about this colour 2 or 3 times because it was so difficult for me to get and when I finally got my hands on it, I immediately removed the nail art I was sporting and used this as a full mani.
This is a glitter party of small blue glitter and blue/teal hexagonal glitter all suspended in a deep blue jelly base and it makes me think of mermaids whenever I look at it. This shade was released in Fall 2010 along with Bad Romance (which is a shade that would definitely make it in my Top 15 polishes).
You can see my full review and swatch of this polish here.
2. China Glaze - Atlantis
This one made it this high on my list because it has so many of my favourite things: it's teal, it has glitter, and it has holo. It's a teal jelly base with teal and holo glitter scattered throughout. It looks absolutely lovely on the nails and although it's a bit sheer and requires 3 coats, it applies quite nicely. As far as I know, this was a limited shade but you can still find it on eBay for regular retail price (which is how I got mine).
1. OPI - Mad as a Hatter
I really hated it when I realized that this definitely was my all-time favourite because I know how hard it is to get this polish. In fact, a quick search on eBay wielded no results at all - not even any at a ridiculous markup price! I myself was very lucky in finding this one and as far as I know, it was the last one in my city since I went pretty much everywhere else looking for it. My bottle even has a crack in in (visible in the photo above) which might be why no one else snagged it but I really didn't care.
Anyway, this is one of those clown puke/unicorn piss polishes that's chucked full of magnificent glitter. It's one of those shades that catches the eye because it's so sparkly and in your face (which I love). I think the HTF status of this polish might be one of the reasons I cherish this as much as I do but as I have said many times before, I love glitter polish, and I especially love multi-coloured glitter polish. The formula of this is excellent (I always love OPI's glitter formula) and it's completely opaque in 2 coats.
Although I would for sure wear this as a full mani, I wouldn't want to use that much of the polish so I would probably use this on an accent nail or I would at least lay down a base colour of purple or silver before adding this in order to conserve polish.
