Review & Swatches - China Glaze Holiday Joy Collection

Hi everyone!

I have a number of holiday collections to show you, so I'm starting with this one by China Glaze called Holiday Joy. It's a full 12-piece collection with a good mixture of colours and finishes.

Keep reading for all of the swatches and the full review!

Angel Wings is a mix of fine gold and holographic glitter. I'm not sure if this goes too well with my skin tone, but I love it nonetheless. The formula is thick, but I didn't find it difficult. My swatch shows three coats.

Blue Bells is an icy silver-blue foil. I always love blue foil polishes, but this one isn't my absolute favourite. It's nice, I just wish there was a little less silver. The formula was amazing though, and it's pretty much a one-coater.

Champagne Kisses is a mix of fine rose gold and gold glitter. I liked this mix of gold better with my skin tone than Angel Wings, but I still really like them both. The formula was basically the same as with Angel Wings and Glistening Snow (below) - thick, but not bad. My swatch is three coats.

Cranberry Splash is a glowy red shimmer. It's actually quite pretty, but it's nothing I haven't seen before. If you don't already have a shade like this though, I definitely recommend it. My swatch is two coats and the formula was great.

Glistening Snow is a mix of fine silver and holographic glitter. This is opaque on its own after three coats, but I can't help but think that this would look really awesome layered over black. The formula was basically the same as with Angel Wings and Champagne Kisses.

Glitter All The Way is an awesome mix of gold, red, green and purple glitters in a clear base. This one reminds me of lights on a Christmas tree, so I layered two coats over Winter Holly (below) and I'm totally in love with the result!

Merry Berry is a deep red creme. It's super shiny, so I didn't even use top coat in my swatch. I'm showing two coats and the formula was good.

Pizazz is a mix of multi-colour glitter in a clear base. Unfortunately, my camera went absolutely crazy trying to capture this, so I'm not very proud of this photo. We've seen this type of polish plenty of times before though, so it's nothing new. But if you don't already own one like this, I would recommend this one. The formula was good and the glitter payoff is also good. This is one coat over Blue Bells.

Pure Joy is a mix of red and gold glitter in a clear base. I've layered two thin coats over Red Satin (below) and I really love the resulting combination! It's so nice for the holidays! The formula was good and you could probably get this to reach opacity on its own with three coats..

Red Satin is a slightly blue-based red creme. It's nice, but nothing special. The formula was good and I've shown two coats in my swatch.

Winter Holly is a phenomenal mix of green and gold glitter. I knew from the start that this would be a favourite of mine and I wasn't disappointed. The formula was very nice and I've shown three coats in my swatch.

With Love is a slightly orange-based red creme. It's the brighter of the red cremes and probably my favourite one, but there's nothing unique about it. The formula was nice and my swatch shows two coats.

Overall, I think this is a great holiday collection! The three red cremes are on the boring side, but they're to be expected with any large holiday collection. My personal favourites are Glistening Snow, Glitter All The Way, Pure Joy and Winter Holly.

The China Glaze Holiday Joy Collection is available now. Each shade can be purchased separately, and there's also a few cute gifts sets to choose from.

  2. I have Merry Berry, Glistening Snow, Angel Wings, Winter Holly, and Blue Bell. I find they're all pretty difficult to remove. Any pointers on that??

    1. Have you tried the foil method of glitter removal? I did a tutorial for that here: http://www.kaylashevonne.com/2010/01/foil-method-removing-glitter-nail.html Or you could try using a peel-off base coat under the polish: http://www.kaylashevonne.com/2012/09/demo-tutorial-peel-off-base-coat.html

    2. Thanks! I've tried to peel-off base coat before. Works wonderfully, but I always manage to peel the polish off before I'm ready. I'll try the foil for sure!

  12. The green glitter is the one I picked up after thinking I would not get any of this collection - but that green is unique to my stash and I got weak the next trip in to visit a Sally's and it jumped in my basket! I am happy I did pick it up - love it with a ton of clear topper on it. The blue is pretty too but I think I have too many metallic blues but not one like this with all the silver in it.

  13. Hi I'm new to your blog, but I love it! I've always been a nail polish junkie but it's well hidden ...as I only do pedis! I saw these on the CG site yesterday and made my list but needed to see the actually swatches, fingers moved super fast to your blog! I'm in glitter mode for the holidays. I will be making the trip to Sally's this weekend for Champagne Kisses, Glistening Snow, and Angel wings. I'm experimenting with Holiday themed nails this season, culimnating with a deep blue and silvery glitter for New Years!
