New Year's Nails - Blinged Out Holographic Ruffian

Hey guys!

I was trying to think of a cool New Year's nail design that wasn't just the typical champagne glasses/fireworks/2013 and I also wanted an excuse to use some of the loose glitter that I've had for ages. The result turned out to be this super blinged out ruffian look! And the best part is that it's super easy (albeit time consuming), so anyone can achieve this look!

I started with a base of GOSH Holographic Hero and then I added the ruffian with Wet 'n' Wild Black Creme. Then came the time consuming part: manually adding tiny pieces of black and holographic hex glitters one-by-one. I got the glitters on eBay quite a while ago, but I'm sure you can still find something similar. Just type in something along the lines of "hexagon nail art glitter".

I actually first started adding the glitters on my ring nail so that I could just go with an accent nail if I found the whole process to be too tedious. But I loved the look too much to stop there so I had to finish it on the rest of the nails.

I think this would make a great look for New Year's, but it's also versatile enough that you can wear it anytime during the year. And you can switch up the colours, too!

Thanks for looking!

  1. pretty, I like these colors.

    I invite you to me:

  2. Wow, this must have taken ages! Love the effort & the outcome :)

  3. I'm so jealous that you got Holographic Hero! I've checked several Shoppers and haven't found it anywhere! :(

On another note, is the ruffian done freehand? I've never done this kind of mani. Great New Years Eve look!

    1. Keep checking! I had to check a few stores before I found mine as well. :)

And yes the ruffian is done freehand! It's actually quite simple: first I painted my nails regularly with GOSH Holographic Hero and then I painted them exactly the same way with the black polish - just starting a little lower than where I started with the GOSH one. And if there was any unevenness afterwards I just patched it up with the black polish and a striper brush!

  4. I like your blog, designs and style a lot! This is so classy and wearable for New Year's Eve!
Althought my new year's eve, and first ever, original nail art is somehow what you say here that you don't like and find banal, I'd be happy if you checked it out on my new blog on a new passion of mine for nail art, where I try to learn from my growing community of nail art lovers friends.

  5. I love the look of the glitter bits on top! These are really pretty!
