Today I have a very exciting and much anticipated collection to share with you. It's the China Glaze Hologlam Collection! Ever since the OMG Collection, we've been after China Glaze to create another holographic collection. Well, they finally gave in to our nagging and released the Hologlam Collection, which consists of twelve new holographic polishes.
Swatches and a review of all twelve shades after the jump!
For each shade I have two pictures for you - the first is in natural lighting and the second is with flash on. In the natural lighting, a lot of these actually look like suede finish polishes, which is pretty neat. However, once you get them under some direct lighting or out in the sun, you can definitely see the pretty rainbow holographic effect.
I didn't use any sort of aqua fix base coat with these polishes. They're just done on my bare nails. If you want, you can use a buffing file to smooth out any ridges in your nails to ensure a smooth application. However, go easy with the buffer because too much buffing can weaken your nails.
And although most times I show my swatches with top coat, these ones are without it. That's simply because top coat dulls the holo effect for a couple of minutes while it's drying, and I didn't want to wait after each swatch. But yes, the holo effect does return to full power once the top coat dried.
Ok, on to the swatches!
Astro-Hot is a light purple-leaning pink. Pretty. I think this one will go well with all skin-tones.
Cosmic Dust is a light silver-grey. I'm not a big fan of the metallic-y/frosty look of this one in natural lighting, but I really like it under direct light/in the sun.
Don't Be a Luna-tic is a really pale seafoam green. My camera didn't want to capture it, but this is a touch more green than it's showing here.
Galactic Gray is a deep gunmetal grey. I actually found that this has a slightly brown-tinge to it as well, which warms it up a bit.
Get Outta My Space is a pale, pink-toned lilac. Sort of boring and frosty looking in natural light, but actually really pretty and feminine looking under direct lighting/in the sun.
Infra-Red is a vibrant magenta. This one is so pretty and definitely one of my favourites from the collection.
Not In This Galaxy is a medium peachy-coral. Here's another favourite! I like holos and thus own a lot of them, but I don't own anything like this one.
OMG A UFO is a vibrant mossy olive green. That's three favourites in a row! Although this one is my absolute top pick.
Sci-Fly By is a light silver-blue. Pretty, although definitely not as unique as the previous three shades.
Strap On Your Moonboots is a dark, midnight blue. I like this one a lot! Doesn't it look like a suede finish polish in the natural light? I wear suede polishes a lot if I'm in a rush and need to slap something on quickly, so I love that this one reminds me of those. But then once its in direct light or out in the sun, I get this pretty holo finish as well. It's the best of both worlds!
Take a Trek is a medium denim-blue with a very slight hint of green. Any teal polish, even if it's only slightly teal is a winner in my books.
When Stars Collide is a deep, maroon-based purple holo. Very interesting colour! I've definitely never seen a holo polish like this one before.
I didn't talk about each of the formulas/application individually like I normally would because they were all basically the same. The formula was great for all of them and I didn't experience any of the common holo polish formula problems such as patchyness and bald spots. Also, each of them required just two coats to get the opacity you see in my swatches.
Overall, I'm super happy with these new holo shades by China Glaze! My favourites are Infra-Red, Not In This Galaxy, OMG a UFO, Strap On Your Moonboots and When Stars Collide.
I know that some people are going to be disappointed that they're not the in-your-face type of holos, but I actually really love the quieter holo look. I think I just basically love holographic nail polish, no matter how strong the effect, whether it's scattered or linear, etc. As I said in a previous post:
Due to the increased cost of materials to make the Hologlams, each shade in the China Glaze Hologlam Collection has a suggested retail price of $14.
The China Glaze Hologlam Collection is an April in-store release, but it's already available online from places like Nail Polish Canada (where each shade is only $12.75) and Sally Beauty Supply (although right now I'm only able to find the whole collection for sale as opposed to the individual shades).
The product(s) in this post were provided by the manufacturer or their PR in exchange for an honest review.
